We booked Jetstar for traveling from Sydney to Gold Coast. Jetstar tickets came with a 10% off coupon for Meriton Apartments. We booked through STAYMSA.com using the booking code ” FLYJET”.

First the location, very near George Street, made bus travel to Circular Quay very easy. Also tram station – Capital Square is just opposite this apartment.

This hotel is walk-able distance to Paddy Market and China Town.

From Sydney Airport, we took a bus 400 from T3 to Rockdale station. A train from Rockdale to Central station. From Central station, we took a tram to Capital Square and the Meriton is right opposite Capital Square entrance.

The apartment is centrally located with lot of eating options around. Lot of Asian stores around the apartment for some quick shopping.

Coles department stores at World Square is 7 min walk from this apartment.

We booked a studio and got a apartment on the 16th floor.

Apartment amenities were good with all basic amenities for Cooking, Washing, Drying etc.

Sydney – Our 3 day trip report

We flow from Gold Coast after completing our 3 day trip their and landed Sydney around noon.

We quickly purchased a MyMulti 3 pass for AUD $60. Please mention you are not going to use bus to City and not train. If you are planning to go to Central station by train then its cost around AUD$78.

Again MyMulti pass comes handy to shuffle between Trains, Trams and Bus & Ferry. Remember , this pass does not work in Sydney Monorail.

We used a combination of bus and train to reach central station. First go to T3 -Domestic and alight in a bus to Burwood and get down at Rockdale train station. The bus stops right outside Rockdale train station.

You can take a train from their to Central station. From Central , we took the tram and got down at Capital Square station (First stop from Central Station). Meriton Sydney is right behind Capital Square building.

After a brief rest, we started towards the main attraction, Opera House.

Opera house was beautiful in the evening along with stunning views of Sydney Harbour Bridge.

After a brief photo session, we took a quick ferry to Manly and it took a good 2 hours for round trip to Manly. The ride comes included in your Multi pass.

Day 2

We started to Blue Mountains around 9 am. Took tram to Central Station and the train platforms ( Platform 7) for Blue Mountains is right near Tram Station.

It is good 2 hours ride to Katoomba. Once in Katoomba, you need to take the shuttle ($2 approx pp) to first 3 sister rock formation . After a brief photo session, we started to Scenic rideway, which again is a 10 min ride from the rock formation.

We just took the cable car ride and did not do any other rides (train etc)

We started to our trip to Sydney and by the time we reached Sydney, it was 4 pm in the evening

We proceeded directly to Circular Quay again for visit to Opera House again. Could not do Opera house tour as it was late already.

On our way back, we did a brief halt to Queen Victoria Building (QVB)

Darling Harbour was 10 min from QVB. But we took the Monorail ($5 pp) as Multipass does not cover it.

After some photo sessions and dinner at the Hard Rock Restaurant , We pretty much winded up our long day.

 Day 3

We pretty much intended to cover Sydney CBD again.

Being from a cricketing crazy country, A trip to Sydney Cricket Ground was very in plan. A

We did a quick SCG tour at 11 am and then proceed to Circular Quay and did the Harbour Bridge Walk.

We did not climb the bridge as the price of AUD $200 pp was too much for us.

Views from Harbour bridge was stunning.  Post Harbour Bridge, we did a quick Harbour Cruise and then did a quick walk around Royal Botanical Garden.

The evening was pretty left for the Beethoven Show at Opera House.

Beethoven – ODE OF JOY was playing during our visit. The 2 hours musical experience was great and views were great from CIRCLE C seats.

Day 4

We just had time to pack and leave Sydney for Singapore by Scoot Airlines.

Summary

Sydney is a very busy seat and well connect by public mode of transport. We took good advantage of MyMulti Pass 3 but still had 3 days of pass usage left.

Food was fantastic with lot of options.

Meriton on Campbell street was good. Click here to read the Reviews.

We did not do Zoo’s or Beach much as we did those in  Gold Coast.

Overall , good trip and we would like to visit this city again :)

Gold Coast – Our 3 day trip

Having flow in from Sydney, by the time we reached Gold Coast Airport, it was 6 pm in the evening.

We did a quick purchase of GO CARD from GC Shuttle desk which is just outside the Airport lounge.

We took the bus no 702 from Airport to Meriton Apartments (30 minutes ride)

Check in was quick and we did a quick refresh, post which we hit out to check the area.

Meriton at Broad beach is located close to beach.

We just did some shopping at Woolworth and some good Mediterranean food to close the day.

Day 2

We pretty much want to cover one of the theme parks today and we went to Movie World. The day pretty much was spent there. In the evening, we hit the beach.

Going to theme parks was easy. Take the express bus TX2 from Gold Coast Convention Center and the bus stops right at all the Theme Parks entrance.

In the evening, we had a quick stroll around Jupiter’s Casino. We did not like the casino much as it was a old casino. May be our visit earlier to Marina Bay Sand’s in Singapore gave us this impression.

Day 3

Started the day with a quick stroll over Beach and it was wonderful in the morning.

Later in the morning we went to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. Again we went here by bus.
Had a good time at the park, with good photo sessions with Koala and Kangaroo’s.

For evening, we visited Surfer’s paradise, but did not go much places there.
Did not visit Q1. We were disappointed with not doing Para Sailing as it was supposed to be booked earlier.

Liked the beach, Meriton Apartments -no doubt was a value for money and the location was fantastic.

Being August, Gold Coast was chiller in the evening, but luckily it did not rain for us.

Overall , 3 day went like a breeze and we wished , we could have stayed there longer.

Scoot Airlines – Cheap Flights to Sydney GoldCoast Bangkok

Being low cost does not mean low of quality and Scoot definitely way above other low cost airlines.

First, being a brand new airline, the overall quality of interiors is new and well maintained.

Scoot is a price warrior.  I have being hunting good deals to Sydney for quite some time and Scoot launch this year was a blessing for me.

The overall cost worked out $730 (Price in Singapore Dollars – For 2 of us ) for a round trip from Singapore.

Scoot Airlines is new low cost airlines based out of Singapore.

Cannot complain. SGD 365 per person for Singapore – Sydney – Singapore was a definitely a good deal.

No wonder their flights were full.

We took the economy class with no other frills added in.

The flight is quite big with 10 seats in row ( 3 – 4- 3) and comes with options to choose your preferred seats etc etc.

The flights departs Changi around 2 am in the morning and lands around 11.30 am in Sydney. This works out perfectly for a easy hotel check in and evening sight seeing.

The return flight starts at noon around 12.50 pm and reaches Singapore by 7 pm in the evening.

Decent in-flight food menu’s and was priced right.

I would recommend to book your food before the journey as they take a long time to serve people who had not booked the flights.

We did not opt for in-flight Ipad entertainment, but you can hire one for $20.

Flight was on time both ways.

No complaints and overall experience traveling Scoot was great.

Hats off to the Scoot team and we will travel again :)

Australia on a budget – Sydney & Gold Coast

With every increasing airfares and rupee devaluation, I thought an international trip in year 2012 would be impossible for me.

Nevertheless, the passion in me to keep hunting for cheaper air tickets which is one of my triggers for a vacation abroad turned fruitful when Tiger Airways announced their 50% discount sale for travel to Singapore from July 2012.

Singapore is one country I never get bored off. Marina Sands being a new addition which I did not get a chance to visit earlier, I thought why not work out something around Singapore + another destination.

Having visit Malaysia, Thailand, Phuket earlier, the destinations in my radar were Australia, New Zealand and Bali.

Thanks to Outlook Traveler Magazine, I happened to know about FlyScoot.com opening up budget travel from Singapore to Sydney and Gold Coast.

The timing was perfect. A quick look at the tickets on TigerAirways.com and flyScoot.com, I was able to freeze my Chennai – Singapore – Chennai deal for USD 350 for 2 persons. Singapore to Sydney and Gold Coast to Singapore came around INR 37000

This was a short trip, so no checked-in baggage in either of the flights. As usual, I always don’t buy additional airline offerings like Checked-In Baggage, Preferred Seats etc.

With limited time, I intended to cover only Sydney and Gold Coast. So my Sydney to Gold Coast travel was done through JetStar.com

The deal came to around AUD 138 for 2 (One way) and it was not a bad deal either. The flights are cheaper if booked earlier or you opt for early morning flight

Now that the flight deals are sealed, next was the hotel hunt.

Having searched numerous travel portals including Expedia.co.in, Travelocity.co.in, Agoda.com, Hotels.com, Booking.com etc, I just realized Sydney is an expensive place and one cannot find a decent hotel under $100 USD or Rs 5500 with Sydney CBD

.

My flight booking with Jetstar offered a 10% discount for Meriton Serviced Apartment bookings.

Meriton is a premium chain of service apartments across Australia and I finally managed to freeze my hotel bookings for AUD  $320 or Rs 20000 for a 3 night stay at Meriton –Campbell street apartment. We choose Meriton Broadbeach apartments for Gold Coast  and it costed us around AUD $285 for 3 nights.

The rational behind choosing this service apartment was its central location and host of other features including availability of a kitchen.

Now that flight and hotel for the entire trip is finalized, it was time for Visa processing.

The visa processing came to around Rs 7500 per person and Singapore cost me Rs 1700 per person.
